The Sooner State

Today is Thursday, February 19, 2015 and I have been looking forward to this weekend for over a year and a half.

For those of you who have read my bio, you know that I play softball and that I did not start my career at Dordt College as a Freshman. Instead I started at Dordt as a Sophomore last year, after transferring in from Northwestern College. As transfer rules would have it, if the schools are in the same conference, as Northwestern and Dordt are, this requires an entire year of ineligibility from sports competition. So instead of playing, I spent last year managing, traveling, and practicing with the team. This was one of the hardest but also one of the best experiences I could have asked for as I was able to build relationships with the team and coaches. Anyways, due to this ineligibility, this weekend will be both our first regulation softball games of the 2015 season and my first games of eligibility as a Defender.

It’s still pretty chilly around here, so we’ll be trekking down to Shawnee, Oklahoma to get these games in. We will be playing four games while we’re out there. On Friday we will be playing Tabor College and Oklahoma Baptist University (OBU) on OBU’s field, and on Saturday we will be playing Benedictine College and St. Gregory’s University on St. Gregory’s field. We are excited to see what we can do against some very good teams, St. Gregory’s is ranked 6th in the nation, and to just get outside and play some softball again!

Here's to hoping we get some warmer weather while we're down there!
