Last weekend, I had the great joy of playing piano for the wedding ceremony of two dear friends from Dordt. It was a beautiful celebration. I enjoyed not only the wedding but also the opportunity to reconnect with numerous Dordt students - current and graduated.
One of my highlights of the wedding weekend, however, came unexpectedly. I needed a place to spend the night, so two of my roommates offered to let me crash their apartment. When I stepped on campus, the weirdest thing happened. I breathed a deep sigh and felt this feeling of “I’m home” wash over me.
Now I (and my family and friends) will be the first to tell you that I’m a homebody. Home is where my family is, and I’d rather be there than anywhere else. But Dordt truly has become my home-away-from-home, and I miss it! It was refreshing to walk on campus, to talk with friends, to hammock in the shade of the walnut grove, even to practice my music in the BJ Haan!
It’s still too early for me to be a sentimental senior, so I know this feeling’s legit. I miss Dordt. And I’m excited to go back this Fall.
So, to the students, staff, and professors coming back to school, I can’t wait to see you. And to all those who will be incoming Freshmen this Fall, I can’t wait to welcome you to your home-away-from-home: Dordt.
