"Friendship is everything. Friendship is more than talent. It is more than the government. It is almost the equal of family." - Don Corleone
(read this whole blog with a Don Corleone accent - it's hilarious!)
I was just recently introduced to the phrase, "The Dordt Mafia." I needed a favor. My professor (Godfather?) told me he knew someone. A Dordt grad who could help. My problem was removed. My professor chalked it up to "The Dordt Mafia."
Now, if by "Mafia" you're thinking, a gun-toting network of mobsters who shares a common lineage, will always choose the violent option, and will do whatever it takes to stay in power, you'd be incorrect.
But, if by "Mafia" you're thinking, a network of people who shares a common alma mater, will always look out for each other, and will do whatever it takes to give a friend a leg up in the world beyond Dordt, you'd be right!
As a soon-to-be-graduating senior, I have begun the job search. My film professor put me in touch with "The Dordt Mafia" – a network of Dordt grads who have made it in the film industry and who are more than happy to help out a fellow Dordt student. This network of Dordt alumni has resulted in almost three hours of phone conversations about the industry, insanely helpful advice for life immediately after graduation, and a job interview – not to mention some newly formed friendships with some really cool people! ("Friendship is everything!")
So, let me "make you an offer you can't refuse:" join The Dordt Mafia. It's an insanely awesome group of people who care about each other both in college and beyond.
